About

The main idea behind the Global Vote Project is to get people talking about things like democratic process, informed voting, important international issues and America’s role in the world with people whom they would not normally have the opportunity to engage.

To achieve this, we’ve created an interactive, dynamic website designed to spark cross-cultural, citizen-to-citizen dialogue, fostering better understanding between Americans and citizens of other countries. Here, you can cast a symbolic vote for the next President of the United States, participate in online discussion forums, and voice your opinion through online polls, while learning about other points of view. By leveraging the unprecedented levels of international interest in the 2008 U.S. Presidential election, the exponential increase in internet usage around the world and the online social networking craze, we hope to create a website that will attract everyday people from around the world who don’t normally have a reason or opportunity to talk to each other, so that they can better understand, and learn from each other.

We do not advocate on behalf of any candidate or political party – we simply want to provide a forum where the citizens of the world can talk to each other about this internationally important event – the 2008 U.S. Presidential election.  All political points of view and cultural backgrounds are completely welcome to participate in the vote and in the discussions.  Users will be asked to agree to a general code of conduct before participating in the discussion forums.

The Global Vote Project is the flagship initiative of Citizen International – a non-profit, non-partisan, organization created by a group of international young professionals in 2007 for the purpose of promoting and facilitating global civic engagement.
